The Colorful Jodipan Village
On February 2018 i still wasn’t sure where to go
for my Eid holiday on June, i had some options and Malang wasn’t in it. Till i saw
a pretty cheap ticket to go there and without thinking i just decided to buy it.
So i started looking for some informations about where to go in Malang. I
didn’t regret my decision at all, turned out i had so much fun backpacking to
Malang.
I started my trip on July 17th, 2 days after Eid. I flew from Sumbawa to Lombok in the morning then continue flying to Surabaya then from Surabaya i took a bus going to Malang and it only costs like usd 1 for 2 hours driving, but the traffic jam made it to be 3,5 hours -,-. In Malang i stayed at Pondok Backpacker and the dorm was cheap, it was usd 7/night include breakfast.
On my 1st day after checked in at the hostel then i went to Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan & Tridi (The Colorful Village) which was only 3 km away from the hostel. This colorful village used to be a slum in Malang but on 2016 a group of local university students had a project idea to turn this village to be a creative place and now it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malang. They painted each house to be so colorful and creative with some interesting drawings and decorations.
I went there twice during my trip and there were
thousands of people visiting the village. I paid Rp. 3,000 or 2 cents to enter
the village and they gave us a keychain or a sticker, depends on which alley
you enter it from. Every inch of the place was so interesting and artistic. It
gives a good impact to the villagers financially. But i can’t imagine living
there knowing that i have to meet hundreds or thousands of human every single
day :o. I would be in a bad mood all the time :D
But since many people around, it was kinda
difficult to take a good pictures but i think i got some pretty good ones. I
was lucky to meet a couchsurfer friend from Vietnam so we went there together
and she took some cool pictures of me. Even the 2nd time i went
there i was with a friend from Malang who also helped taking a million pictures
of me :D. And sometimes i had to wait in Line to take a picture in a famous
spot but it was still nice. I was so happy to see and enjoy such creativity and
the villagers were so friendly. I guess they are used to see all these people
taking pictures in front of their house and all the noises and stuff.
But it was a very interesting trip i had on my 1st
and 2nd day in Malang visiting the same place but i explored the whole
neighborhood and took many Instagramable pictures. I recommend this place to
visit if you like taking an artistic pictures and interact with local people. Love
the place so much and hopefully to be back to get more cool pictures :D.
Nice story, nice photo, keep writing
