Malang Trip Part III

Goa Tetes & Tumpak Sewu waterfalls

Phewww it took a month for me to write another article from the same last trip, kinda lost my mood for awhile. Next trip to share about is the experience going to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall which was also my main reason to do that Malang trip. Saw people’s pictures on Instagram and it was sooo good that i promised myself i had to be there too.

For my 3rd day in Malang, i already scheduled to go to Tumpak Sewu, luckily some friends from Malang would take me there. A Couchsufing friend from Vietnam i met there wanted to join too so it was 5 of us riding for over 2 hours away from 8 am. Tumpak Sewu itself is located in the border between Malang and Lumajang. Visitors can enter the waterfall through Malang area or Lumajang area and it has different views of the waterfall.

We entered from Lumajang gate cause my friend suggested us to go to another waterfall 1st, it’s called Goa Tetes and from that waterfall we could continue walking through the river to get to Tumpak Sewu. It was a good idea since we could go to more places. My friend also said that the track was easier this way.

From parking lot we had to walk through pretty difficult stairs, in some parts we had to hold onto the ropes climbing down the slippery rocks with water flows on it. But again, as my friend said this track was easier.....even tho it was not that easy but it was very fun, very adventurous. I actually didn’t really know that we would go to the bottom part of the waterfall. Actually the 1st plan was just to go to Panorama. So to enjoy Tumpak Sewu you could climb down to get to the bottom which i read it was hard to go. And before i didn’t know that i would go with other people, i thought i would go alone so my plan was just to go to Panorama. This Panorama is a place where you can enjoy the waterfall view from the top side.

But anyway i wasn’t really ready for the track but i was happy we did that. From parking lot to get to Goa Tetes took only 20 minutes walking and climbing down. Well it kinda depends on how fast you could go that. When we got to Goa Tetes Waterfall, i was so amazed, and there were no other people around, It was just us. There are many waterfalls in Goa Tetes area, there are many natural pools too but no one swim so we just enjoyed the view and took million pictures there.

There were also caves there, actually Goa means cave so of course there were caves. I didn’t enter tho. We had to climb up the slippery rocks if we wanted to enter the cave and i tried not to get too wet and wanted to protect my stuff. I regret not knowing this whole plan tho so i could at least bring my waterproof bag and maybe some more clothes. But anyway after exploring around Goa Tetes for almost an hour we continued walking through the river for like an hour (cause we took many pictures along the way too). Then we met some people where we actually had to pay to enter Tumpak Sewu, it works another way around if you came from Tumpak Sewu  side to get to Goa Tetes too, so it was like the border between the 2 areas.

Entering this Tumpak Sewu area, i felt more and more amazed, high cliffs on both sides and i felt like i was in another world, a fantasy world, it was just soooo beautiful. Then we had to cross the last river to finally get to the bottom of Tumpak Sewu andd Oh My God, it was super wonderful. I didn’t plan on going down there and i was really there. There were many other people already  but it was just soooo wonderful. When i climbed up the rocks i could see rainbow from up there.

We were there for like an hour enjoying the amazing view and taking another million pictures then we decided to quickly continue walking to Panorama, it was the best decision ever!. The track to get to Panorama was hard! Maybe i didn’t have many tracking experiences but it was hard. We had to climb up another slippery rocks by holding on the ropes again. When we didn’t have to climb up the slippery rocks, we had to climb up the slippery wooden stairs or just some tree roots. In some parts of wooden stairs were almost like 90°, but anyway again, it was very adventurous and fun.

When we got to Panorama, there were already many people and i think i didn’t really get good pictures as i wish but it was wonderful view from up there but if you remember earlier when i said it was the best decision that we quickly walking to Panorama, because it started to rain,,like hard rain,,couldn’t imagine how those people climb up or the people who we met climbing down to the waterfalls on those slippery stairs. We were lucky we already got back on top so we just had to walk to parking lot again. We had our raincoats then we just immediately ride back to Malang but we stopped to had dinner in another friend’s house.

But it was a very cold night to ride on motorbike with only wearing shorts and thin shirt, and it was a thin raincoat too so the water went inside and i was completely wet for 2 hours on motorbike. It was super fun experience and i’m proud of myself that i really did the trip to Tumpak Sewu as i planned.
