Backpacking Through Lombok Part 1 (Jerowaru Beaches)

CEMARA BEACH - KALIANTAN BEACH - PINK BEACH - TANJUNG RINGGIT

This 2017 Eid holiday I had 10 days off and had been planning on using it to go backpacking to Lombok for a week, couple days after Eid. Why around Eid? One of the reasons is to avoid the most famous and annoying question during Eid for single people in my age ‘when are you gonna get married?’ from relatives or friends -_-

I started the trip on 27th July morning, my friend dropped me to bus station who also paid for the bus (so nice of him <3) and told people around that I was from Malaysia then some people include driver tried to speak English with me -,-. It costs Rp. 100,000, more expensive than I thought it would be. But maybe cause it was around Eid, many people using it and I didn’t even get the AirCon one :(.

Tano Port - Sumbawa
My 1st destination was Jerowaru - East Lombok, there were some nice beaches there. So I got off of the bus in Sikur, it’s a district in East Lombok. In Sikur I had to take ojek for Rp. 20,000 (which also was more expensive during Eid) to Sakra Village, about 5 km away. In Sakra, someone picked me up, Pak Umar, our company’s business partner. He managed our plantation area in Jerowaru, he also let me stay in his house and agreed to take me to those beaches I wanted to go. He was so nice and helpful, so was his wife and his 3 kids. I got my own room and they also provided meal during my trip. There’s nothing I can do to pay their kindness back, they treated me like their family, took me to meet their relatives and friends, also taking me to our plantation area to meet farmers. Guess work a lil bit during holiday was fine……

I arrived in his place in the evening after visiting his relatives, plantation areas and farmers. After showered and had dinner, we talked about our next day plan. He said he needed to meet some farmers before taking me to those beaches, I agreed. Btw that 1st day expenses were just Rp. 35,000 that I spent on 2 liters gasoline for Pak Umar’s motorbike and Ojek from Sikur to Sakra.

My room in Pak Umar's house

The next day after breakfast, we started at 7 am to meet farmers 1st. Actually my target was going to Tanjung Bloam, Tanjung Ringgit and Pink Beach. But that morning Pak Umar took me to Cemara Beach and Kaliantan Beach 1st, I think because it was in a same directions with his farmer’s place. It was pretty early so the beaches were so quiet and no people around which was good but the water wasn’t so good yet without the sun lights. We spent only about 10 minutes at each beaches. From Pak Umar’s house to Cemara Beach was just about 4 km away, and Kaliantan Beach was not that far from Cemara Beach, only few minutes driving away. For me, both are pretty much the same, white sands and I’ve seen its pictures before and it was wonderful. This time it wasn’t as good as I expected but I think it was because I went there too early, if I went there at noon maybe I could get a better view. But both beaches were clean.

Kaliantan Beach
After Cemara & Kaliantan we continued driving to Pink Beach which was in the opposite direction. Before we got to the beach we met another farmers and talked a lil bit and they told me that people couldn’t enter Tanjung Bloam since they have fancy resort there. It freaking sucks and I don’t know if it’s true even tho I heard about that before, it’s too bad that local people can’t even enjoy their nature but I didn’t talk much and just agreed not to go there but it upsets me so much -,-. Then we just directly went to Pink Beach which was 3 km away from the farmer’s house. I heard a lot about this Pink Beach, about the very bad access to get there especially and yea it was bad but not as bad as what people say I think, I had the worse ones before. To get to pink beach we had to pay entrance fee for Rp. 5,000/person.

Japanese Tunnel at Pink Beach
Pink Beach
To be honest I had a very high expectation about this Pink Beach, that I would find pink sands and blabla, well I didn’t. But it was still to be there, it was still pretty early so not so many people. There were some boats also that can take the visitors to some small islands around. I didn’t wanna take any boat cause I already had plans to go to gilis the next day. So that day chillin at Pink Beach was enough and took some pictures. I feel bad to ask Pak Umar to take my pictures so I just did it by myself with timer, jumping, laying, sitting on sands taking my own pictures. There is also a cave or tunnel more precisely that was built by Japanese long time ago to hide from the Dutch, It wasn’t that big but nah I didn’t wanna enter. I prefer to chill at the beach and talking with Pak Umar about work and trip.

After Pink Beach, Pak Umar took me to Tanjung Ringgit which was very close from Pink Beach, just few minutes driving. No other people at all and we didn’t need to pay any entrance fee. We just drove and stopped somewhere and found a perfect spot to enjoy the view. There was also a cannon which was used by the Japanese and some other buildings around. Hmmm..i guess it was some kind of fortress to protect themselves from the Dutch. Btw, from all places I visited that day, Tanjung Ringgit was the best for me. It has a perfect view even tho it was too hot but I liked it there. We stayed there for a while chillin and taking some pictures. Pak Umar told me that the view from Tanjung Ringgit and Tanjung Bloam are pretty much the same so it kinda made me feel better,,kinda……

Tanjung Ringgit
Tanjung Ringgit
Pak Umar actually offered me to see some other beaches but I think it was enough for that day cause I had to continue my trip to Mataram and luckily my coworker came to meet Pak Umar for work thing, so I could join him for a free ride to go to Mataram :D. Around 4 pm we left Pak Umar’s house and driving for like 1,5 hours to Mataram.

So grateful and satisfied even tho only staying with Pak Umar and his family for a night. His wife cooked a lot of food cause their relatives also came to visit. Everyone I met there was super nice and friendly that made me feel feel like I was home. That was something I would never forget and Pak Umar keeps asking me to come again and I definitely will \\(^o^)//
