Backpacking Through Lombok Part II (Sekotong Gilis)

GILI NANGGU – GILI SUDAK – GILI KEDIS

After spending my 1st 2 days in Jerowaru during my trip exploring Lombok, I continued my trip to Mataram, the capital city of Lombok, where I met another 2 Malaysian travelers Rafi & Ana, who I already talked to for a while and planned to travel together to some places in Lombok. We stayed for few nights in my brother’s rental room.

In the evening, we met up with some other travelers and friends and ended up making plan to travel together the next day to Sekotong – West Lombok to see some gilis around. They were also willing to bring their car so we all could go together. Btw fyi, in Lombok now they have Uber, Grab-Car and Gojek so it’s super easy to go from one place to another, but it’s not that many yet so sometimes we had to wait longer but that was a good progress. And when we had to use public transport, we would share the cost so it would be so much cheaper.

Otw to Sekotong

It took less than 2 hours driving from Mataram to Sekotong and our friends from Lombok Uken & Wira were very helpul. The boat price is Rp. 100,000/gili and we went to 3 gilis, we supposed to pay Rp. 300,000 but we got Rp. 50,000 discount. Since me, Rafi and Ana wanted to go snorkeling but we couldn’t swim -,- so we rent snorkel gears and life-jackets that costs Rp. 50,000/set (Mask & Life-jacket). We rent 3 and got 1 additional mask for free.

Our 1st stop was Gili Nanggu, I think it’s the most famous one, I heard about it a lot. It took only 20 minutes boat ride to get there. But there were already many other visitors there, so we just got into 1 of the gazebos, left our stuff there and went snorkeling. But before I got into water I took some pictures, I always think about doing that before I get wet :D. Well to be honest, the underwater was not as good as I expected. I just met some fish and didn’t really see any corals, but I think I was just snorkeling in a wrong spot even tho I saw many other people around me. But the boat guy said that in the other part of the island it has better corals but we were to lazy too move -,-.

An hour later we moved to Gili Sudak, it took about 15 minutes boat ride to Gili Nanggu, I’ve actually been there once few years ago but I was happy to be back. It looked better than before, I guess because it was more sunny that day than on my last visit. Many other visitors too but not as many as in Gili Nanggu. There is a restaurant and a hotel in Gili Sudak. We went to the restaurant and only ordered one grilled fish with chilli sauce for 5 of us :D. Uken and Wira brought lunch for us tho so the grilled fish was just unnecessary additional lunch but we needed to buy something so we would be able to chill at the restaurant chairs. But the grilled fish was nice.  The size was actually only for 2 persons and it costs Rp. 75,000.

We chilled and talked and joked around then the girls went snorkeling for a bit. Not really snorkeling actually but was just getting into water and took some pictures -,-. It was so cold when we were out of water. Oh btw we didn’t pay any entrance fee here but we paid Rp. 5,000/person in Gili Nanggu.

After Gili Sudak, we continued to our last stop, Gili Kedis which was 15 minutes boat ride. It was my most favorite of all, it took only 10 minutes to walk around the whole island, it was so tiny and if u see it from the air, the island shapes like a heart, aww romantic, but nah we didn’t need romance. Surrounded by white sands and the water was so clear. Even tho I hate that many other people around but I didn’t really care and was so confident taking so many pictures in front of those people. I guess no one cared about each other -,-.

No one of us went snorkeling, we just walked around to take pictures and enjoyed the view. I felt so good to be there. Wishing I could own it for myself that I could build my private beach villa L. It felt so perfect, it was like I didn’t wanna go home. There was a swing that I had no chance to get on -,- and sweet couples around L. I took so many nice pictures there that I had a hard time to choose which ones to post :D

We finished the whole trip around 3 pm, we were planning on going to nearby beach to see sunset. I was pretty sleepy that I fell asleep in the car that I didn’t know that we were climbing up till I felt something weird. Our car got stuck in the middle of the uphill road. It was pretty bad that it took almost couple hours and that we needed like 10 other guys to help us to move the car. It was pretty scary especially when the car went down and almost hit the motorbike and people behind. But it was an interesting experience, Uken and Wira were so nice that even after the accident they took us to have dinner at the other beach near Mataram. It was sunset time but no one cared about that anymore and just focus on eating and being grateful that we were just fine :)

That day was still perfect with all its good and bad memories and big thanks to Uken and Wira for their kindness and sincere friends, I’ll definitely will meet them again.
