Waterfalls on Moyo Island

Moyo Island is like the main tourist attraction in Sumbawa. Located in the north coast of Sumbawa Island with the area of 349 km². It is a famous spot for those who love nature, underwater world, or fancy private vacation. Moyo Island has it all.

Moyo Island surrounded by some nice beaches but for now i'm gonna write about the waterfalls i've been to even tho it was like 4 years ago and the pictures are not that good but trust me, it was so much more beautiful in real.

It was my 1st time going to Moyo Island with some friends and we rent a round trip boat for 6 people for Rp. 500.000. We can't get that price anymore nowadays i'm pretty sure. As i know the price for public boat now is Rp. 25.000 one way and minimum Rp. 1.000.000 for charter boat. There was no public boat at that day so charter was the only option. The pier to go to Moyo Island is not that far from my house and after struggling to find a cheap boat we left around 10 am and arrived in Moyo around 12 pm.

1st after we arrived we went to the village mayor's house to report our visit. I heard it's some kind of the rule there so we did it. After that we went to the 1st waterfall, Diwu Mba'i. It was not that hard to find, they put some signs along the way. At that time we were the only people walking to the waterfall while other people driving their motorbikes. But it was not even far, only 2 km from the village.

There were many people at the waterfall, most of them are local kids. I understood why those kids liked to go there cause at Diwu Mba'i waterfall they tied up a rope on a tree so people could use it to jump from the waterfall to the pool like Tarzan.  Even though the waterfall isn't that high, it was like 3 meters only but it was pretty scary for to hang and ump since i can't swim. But someone offered me to jump together so he could help me later in the pool. Well that was pretty much like Tarzan and Jane. Jane who can't swim.

It was pretty crowded so we decided to continue trekking to the next waterfall, Mata Jitu Waterfall. We had to go back to the village 1st and then walked for another 4 km to reach the waterfall. Along the way to Mata Jitu, we passed a forest and only some people passed us by with their motorbikes going to another village. So i sometimes stopped them and hitchhike :D.

It took like 1,5 hours trekking to Mata Jitu, and the contrary of Diwu Mba'i, Mata Jitu was so quiet, no other people. It is a multi-terraced waterfall with stunning green colored water and popular among travelers even many world celebrities spent their vacation here such as Lady Diana, Mick Jagger, Maria Sharapova and many others, and last time i watched a Hollywood movie with Blake Lively and John Travolta in it, called Savage and it took place at Mata Jitu Waterfall.

Again, sorry for my poor pictures, have no idea why i didn't take any good pictures of my trip to those waterfalls. I guess 4 years ago i was still that kind of person who traveled somewhere just to take a selfie instead of the scenery but now i do really regret that -,- and i really wish to go to those waterfalls again soon.

For public transportation like Ojek it costs about Rp. 75.000 - Rp. 100.000 to go to Mata Jitu if you don't wanna walk. Especially if you only do one day trip, but to go to Moyo i suggest to stay for at least a night cause Moyo is not only about waterfalls but many other places that you also can see.It is also a good place to enjoy sunset.
