The power of social media! It works on me so well, once i saw a
picture or heard about a new place that
attracts me so much, then i would go and find it. Just like once i saw a
picture on friend’s Facebook about Kalela waterfall. Never heard of it before
but that picture looks wonderful and God knows how much i love waterfalls. So
what did i do next? Sent a message to that friend asking about the location and
that was it. Contacted some friends who wanted to join and started the
adventure.
The
only thing i knew was Kalela waterfall is located in Batu Pisak Village,
Jereweh District, West Sumbawa. Me and some friends drove like 3 hours to get
to the village from Sumbawa Besar. Once you got to Jereweh intersection, which
is pretty easy to find, just keep asking people along the way, then you go to
the left. About 400 m after turning left you will find a clinic and school (on
left side) then a small alley to Batu Pisak Village, its name is written on the
gate in front of the alley. Then enter and keep driving little bit more and you
will find a rice field. Just keep driving through the rice field and you will
find a small footpath and there was a place where you gotta stop to turn left
again. Drive for like 100 meters then you will find a parking lot. If my
explanation is confusing you (cause it’s also confusing me -,-) then just ask
people on your way there. If you can find the parking lot then you are so close
to the waterfall, you just need to walk for like 5 minutes more.
Kalela
waterfall is not even that high, but it’s beautiful. The natural pool under the
waterfall is even more beautiful. The water is so clear and blue. It’s a kind
of place i wanna be at whenever i feel stressed about something. I feel like
moving it to my backyard, but i don’t have backyard -,-. I feel like laying on
my hammock with my boyfriend while staring at the waterfall and its pool, but i
don’t have a boyfriend, i do have a hammock tho.
There
are many small fish in the pool so it’s like having a free fish teraphy when
you just put your feet in the water. Swim in it would be so peaceful but i
couldn’t swim -,-. That is something i need to learn tho but i’ve been learning
for like 12 years, i guess swimming is just not for me.
There
are many trees around the waterfall and they put a rope on 1 of the big tree
just by the pool. So visitors can do that Tarzan thing, swing and jump to the
pool, i never try it tho. It must be fun to swing and jump, but not so fun when
you drown after that. So instead of doing that, i prefer to just lay on the
ground, on the roots actually, starring at the waterfall and it felt like
peaceful. It’ like if someone asks me ‘where do you see yourself in 10 years?’
then that’s gonna be my answer, laying on the root by the pool of Kalela
Waterfall -,-
I’ve
been to Kalela waterfalls 3 times so far, and luckily whenever i went there,
there were never too many people. On my 2nd visit even no one at
all, only me and my friend. Even till now, i don’t think many people know about
this waterfall, even in Sumbawa. But it’s absolutely one of the best places in
Sumbawa that i really recommend to visit.
The
other good thing about this waterfall is because it’s pretty close to Jelenga
Beach, which is one of my favorite beaches in West Sumbawa. You just need to
drive for like 15-20 minutes from waterfall to the beach. I usually spend the
day at the waterfall then move to the beach for the beautiful sunset. What i
hate is driving back to Sumbawa Besar for 3 hours leaving all those beauties :(
I
just wish that they would put street sign for directions to get to the waterfall
so a person like me who is so bad at explaining no need to explain that details
about the road and footpath thing -,-
