9 Days Solo Backpacking to Malaysia & Thailand (Part 1)

I like exploring my island, Sumbawa, and traveling around my country, Indonesia, that’s for sure. But all this time i also always dream about traveling abroad, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people, learning new languages, going to new places. Till last December 2015 i finally made it happen!

After few months planning and hunting tickets and preparing, i decided that i would do my 1st trip abroad and i chose Malaysia & Thailand to be the 1st countries i would like to visit. Besides doing it for the 1st time, i also decided to do it solo! Till my family and friends were like ‘omg seriously? Why? Are you sure? Bla bla bla?’

But yea i was serious about traveling alone and i had nothing to worry about besides food problem since i only love my mum’s food. But i got pretty good prices for my tickets, and i booked some hostels and was soooo excited about it. So the plan was Kuala Lumpur for city tour, Hatyai for heritage tour and Krabi for its nature.

So i started the trip on December 24th 2015 flew from Sumbawa to Lombok (30 min flight and price is around Rp. 500.000) yeh that price was pretty expensive actually since it was a day before Christmas. I arrived at Lombok airport around 6:50 am and my next flight to Kuala Lumpur was at 12.15 pm, my ticket from Lombok to Kuala Lumpur was pretty cheap, it was less than Rp. 600.000 for 3,5 hours flight, almost same price with the ticket from Sumbawa to Lombok which was only 30 minutes -,-.

I arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 around 3:30 pm and luckilyyyyy i have a friend in KL who kindly picked me up at the airport and let me stay in her apartment!. About my friend, her name is Nurul, we’ve been friends on Facebook somehow and we never met before till i came to KL, she offered to host me and i was soooo lucky to be her friend \\(^o^)//. She lives in Ampang which was about 45 minutes driving from the airport.

My 1st meal was some indian food, some kind of cheese bread and chicken, it was nice. And i actually didn’t really know what i would do in KL, my plan was just enjoying the city. But that night my friend and her bf took me to see Petronas tower at night and we had another dinner at the restaurant in front of Petronas, it was Indian restaurant again btw. I was like an idiot looking up those tall buildings, i never really seen tall buildings around me all this time. I felt different and happy, in the morning i was still in Sumbawa and at night i was in another country.

After Petronas they took me to Bukit Bintang, it was one of the famous tourist spots in KL. Many nice restaurants, bars and hotels. We entered a bar called umm eh Tropical something. It was nice, watching live musics, meeting new people, drinking, singing, it was so fun. We stayed there till they were closed at 3 am. After Bukit Bintang we went to another restaurant to eat and we stayed there till around 5 am, crazy! My parents would never allow me to do that lol but i did it in KL, went home in the morning and slept till noon.

My 2nd day in KL, we spent it by visiting Suria KLCC, yea enjoying Petronas again in daytime. Had lunch there with some noodles, cheese rice with salmon and chicken,,some kind of ices, it was all nice, i enjoyed it a lot, takings lots of pictures there. After KLCC, we went to see KL tower, only for few minutes tho and then they took me to Skypark. We drove like an hour to get to the SkyPark in Subang. We got to the top floor and there was like glass floor and i got a lil bit nervous to step on it but it was fun. The city view from the top was amazing, if i didn’t see many romantic couples around me maybe i would enjoy that moment more -,-.

The 2nd night we went home early, around 10 pm cause i would fly to Thailand the next day. We woke up around noon and they took me to Train Station hich wa like 20 minutes driving from my friend’s apartment. It was my 1st time taking train haha,,i paid like Myr 26 for the train to go to KLIA 2 and it took only like 30 minutes. I decided that i like taking express train, i wish we could have one in Sumbawa \\(^o^)//I was so proud of myself tho cause i could handle things at the airport alone and flew to Hatyai, Thailand safely.
