Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfalls – Lombok

Lombok never stop to satisfy me with its beauty. It has so many beautiful places to visit. As i'm so into nature, beaches and waterfalls are my favorite spots to visit in Lombok. And talking about waterfalls, Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfalls are probably the most famous waterfalls in Lombok Island.

Both are located in Senaru Village, North Lombok, within Rinjani National Park area right under the foot of Rinjani Mountain which is the highest mountain in the island. I luckily visited these waterfalls twice during my new year trip exploring Lombok Island. Even tho it was always full of people, it’s still one of my favorites spots in Lombok.

It also has the same entrance where we gotta buy entrance ticket which is only Rp. 5,000/person. From the entrance we walked for 15 minutes then we arrived at the 1st waterfall, Sendang Gile. But you may enjoy its beautiful view along the way to the waterfall too. My 1st visit was with 2 coworkers (who fell in love to each other since that trip and now they are married with twin babies, envyyy) and Couchsurfing friends from Germany & Finland,,,ahhhh i missed that trip :(. We explored the island for 11 days riding our motorbikes from one place to another \\(^o^)//

Sendang Gile Waterfall

Sendang Gile is  a two-leveled waterfalls with height about 30 m, and justin case you are tired after 15 minutes walking you can also find some local people selling drinks or snacks near the waterfall. Sendang Gile doesn’t have pool under it so you can’t really swim but just standing under the waterfall instead. We only spent less than 15 minute in Sendang Gile then we continue to walk to Tiu Kelep. Oh to get to these waterfalls from the entrance or from one waterfall to another are super easy cause the path and sign are very clear.

From Sendang Gile to Tiu Kelep, it takes about 30 minutes walking through a cool atmosphere of beautiful forest. Twice i went there, always walked together with other million people, not really a million but a lot of people. These waterfalls are also famous among the international travelers too so you will see many foreigners around.

Well both waterfalls are amazing but to be honest, i like Tiu Kelep more. I don’t see many waterfalls around the world yet but so far Tiu Kelep is the most beautiful one i’ve ever seen. 42 meters height and its unique shapes also with its pool which is actually a river under the waterfall, feels like being at the nature paintings. The water is so cool that i was shaking so much after swimming in it. Difficult to take pictures of the waterfall without million people in it tho :(. But i think i got some pretty good shots without including any human being in it.

Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Different with Sendang Gile, you won’t find people selling drinks or snacks at Tiu Kelep. What we did was bringing some food from my coworker’s house. We stayed in his house during our trip which is pretty close to the waterfalls. There are many spots near the waterfalls you can chill and we chose to take a rest, sitting and eating next to a group of old ladies that we found out were also from Sumbawa. We talked so loud in Sumbawanese so we could hear each other and were like ‘oh are you from Sumbawa?’ and there were some introduction and sharing food things after that.

So we entered the gate and acted like we could just buy everything we want at that restaurant so the security guards didn’t stop us and just let us in, and we immediately went to the pool. We enjoyed the view till we heard someone next to us talked to the other person about how some people just came to their pool without buying anything at the restaurant or stay in their hotel, we felt kinda offended cause that was exactly what we did. We were poor but still had pride so we left the pool immediately hahahhahahahaha, well after taking some ‘not so good’ pictures.

Well in the end, these two waterfalls are a must visit places if you guys planning on exploring Lombok Island, i always had a good time being there and definetely will be back again and will make sure to bring enough money to stay or eat at Rinjani Lodge :D.
