Kenawa Island - Sumbawa

One of most favorite spots to spend weekend, camping, snorkeling or watching sunset in Sumbawa,,,yeah Kenawa Island is a perfect example of a tiny uninhabited island where you can do so many things in one place on your vacation.

Located in Tano District, West Sumbawa, where we gotta take a boat ride for like 25 minutes from the fisherman village in Tano. If you are from Lombok, then you gotta take ferry from Kayangan Port to Tano Port for about 1,5 hours and then walk a little bit outside Tano port and then you’ll find the gate to enter the fisherman village where you can get boats that can take you to some islands around.

For the big boat that can bring like 10 - 12 people, it charges you Rp. 250.000 for round trip. This one is good choice if you have a group of people who can share costs. Another option is a small boat for 2 person and it charges you only Rp. 20.000/per person for round trip. I’ve been camping in Kenawa Island twice and always took the big boat even tho for 2 person, i just felt safer with the big one. You prolly can bargain with the fishermen about the price but there is also a boat from fishery office which is better than the fishermen boats but i guess Rp. 250.000 is their fixed price that you can’t bargain anymore.

1st time i went there, i went with my coworkers. But most of them went back at 5 pm while me and 3 other friends decided to stay for a night. On my 1st and 2nd coming i never brought any tent cause there are some small wooden houses that visitors can use when they are in the island. But if you bring tent, that prolly is better tho, it feels more like real camping -,-.

Kenawa is more crowded lately, like you prolly will be surrounded by other people too when you are camping and as i heard there are also some people start to sell food there. When i was there before, only once on my 1st coming that i  met a group of travelers from Seteluk, West Sumbawa which was lucky for us cause they invited us to join and they had lots of food :P. We are still friends until now and travel together sometimes. On my 2nd coming, there were no other people in the island. It was like my tiny private island where for awhile i felt like the beach, the hill, and even the sunset were all mine :P.

The island is surrounded by clear blue water with stunning white sands and covered by beautiful savana. There is also a hill where we can climb for like ±15 minutes even tho it is not that high but you can see the amazing view of the ocean and the whole island. It is also a perfect spot where you can watch sunset and sunrise. While the underwater is pretty amazing too, i have no underwater pictures of it tho -_-. But btw you gotta be careful too cause i met snakes twice when i was walking around the island.

Since it’s getting more and more popular, many travel agencies offer trip to the island. Me myself highly recommend this place too btw and i can’t wait to go there again. While i’m writing this, i start to miss it. Well just keep the place clean and be careful with the snakes and i’m sure you will enjoy it there :)
